In the course of providing our clients with income tax, estate tax, and gift tax advice, and in the course of estate planning and administration, we receive financial information from our clients. If you are a former client of Fisher Law Office, you should know that your information is confidential except as agreed to by you, or as required under an applicable law.
We retain records relating to professional services that we provide so that we are better able to assist clients with their professional needs and, in some cases, to comply with professional guidelines. In order to guard their nonpublic personal information, we maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with our professional standards.
The State of Michigan has adopted protections for social security numbers in certain circumstances, but in any event we have a policy to treat such information with the same privacy and confidentiality as client information. That policy has appropriate internal and external sanctions.
About Our Files
Our files on client matters all are the property of the Fisher Law Office. It is our practice not to keep executed documents in our files. It is our policy not to retain client property in our files or in our office at all, and never after conclusion of a client matter. Our files are periodically retired to off-site storage with limited availability, and after a period of time all of our files are destroyed.
For Client Protection
We have made arrangements with other attorneys we respect to handle our cases for us in the event of our absence or other unavailability, and to handle certain ongoing matters upon retirement. We know that our former clients, as we, will take comfort in the fact that these arrangements have been made.
